Edinburgh College of Art has an international reputation as one of the most successful art colleges in Europe. Each June, the College opens its doors to the public for the annual student Degree Show. Work by more than 400 students of art, design and architecture will be on display throughout the College, which is temporarily transformed into an enormous exhibition space. [ECA, 2011]

For the duration of the 2011 Degree Show This Is Now presented a programme of daily exhibitions consisting of works selected and loaned from the various concurrent Degree Shows within the college. Held in a purpose-built temporary exhibition space located in the ECA Sculpture Court, the nine exhibitions, each curated by a different invited curator, ran from the 11-19th June.

Curator: Lindsey Hanlon

Lindsey Hanlon is an independent curator based in Glasgow. She co-founded and runs tentilten, and has curated exhibitions internationally and in the UK.

A CONVERSATION
Curator: Diana A Sykes

Diana A Sykes studied art history at the University of St Andrews and Sweet Briar College, Virginia. Currently Director of Fife Contemporary Art & Craft she was previously curator of the Scottish Arts Council’s Travelling Gallery and Director of the Crawford Arts Centre. She was a member and Chair of the Scottish Arts Council’s exhibitions panel and is a trustee of the Barns-Graham Charitable Trust.

Curator: Kendall Koppe

Kendall Koppe. Born in Brazil in 1979 and raised in New York City, Kendall Koppe first moved to Scotland to study at the Glasgow School of Art where he graduated in 2001. Koppe returned to Glasgow after completing an MA at The University of Westminster in 2005. He is one of the founding directors of the artist-led gallery Washington Garcia, a gallery with no fixed location focused on the production of new work (2006 - 2010). In April 2011 he opened an eponymously named gallery that further builds on the exhibitions and artist ties begun under the umbrella of Washington Garcia. The new gallery programme is designed to support, realize and present new contemporary practice in Scotland and abroad.

Curator: Stuart David Fallon

Stuart David Fallon, born Glasgow 1982, is a visual artist and curator based in Edinburgh.

After graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone in 2005 he served on the committee of Generator Projects in Dundee until 2007. Since then his practice has included freelance curation and the co-ordination of national and international projects. Due to complete his MFA Intermedia Art at Edinburgh College of Art in 2011, he is the creator and co-ordinator of THIS IS NOW.

SIGHT-SIZE

Curator: Laura Simpson

Laura Simpson is Assistant Curator for Exhibitions at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design working on a diverse gallery programme and offsite projects. After graduating from the MFA course at DJCAD in 2003, Laura was Chair of artist-led group Generator projects. Between 2008 and 2009 Laura undertook research into emergent artists' film practice in the UK and Germany, funded by the Scottish Arts Council. She continues to develop independent curatorial and writing projects.

Curator: Pat Fisher

Pat Fisher is the Principal Curator at Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh.

Since graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 1976 with postgraduate qualification Fisher developed a unique career in the arts. From her innovative work in Psychiatry during the 1970s to the high profile achievements in gallery education within the Fruitmarket Gallery during the 80s and more recently her senior position in Talbot Rice Gallery, University of Edinburgh.

FOUND FACE DOWN AND OTHER WORKS

Curator: Stuart David Fallon & Andrew Gannon

Andrew Gannon, born in Bolton 1980, is an Artist.
During the final year of his undergraduate degree at Manchester Metropolitan University he co-founded The Bert & Ganddie gallery, 2001-2002. Other curatorial projects include La Gallerie dans ma Poche, 2003-04, a programme of exhibitions situated in his left hand jacket pocket, and most recently he is a co-director of J.A.Sinclair gallery, 2010-current, a project space based in Leith.

Curator: Francesca Nobilucci

Francesca Nobilucci, born Genoa in 1976, is a visual artist based in Edinburgh.
She completed the MFA Programme at Edinburgh College of Art in 2009 and went on to join the committee of Embassy and has recently finished her tenure as co-director.

THIS IS NOW/A GRAND TOUR

Curator: Fallon/Lochhead

Fallon/Lochhead are an artist duo formed in 2010. Their collaborative practice is site-specific and situation-responsive. Previous projects include As We Walk/As We Talk, Edinburgh College of Art 2010, and At the edge of a settled area, Cumbernauld Town Centre 2011.
